Yesterday was the Pro Am of the Heritage Golf Tournament on Hilton Head. I made the commitment to go to the tournament every day which is normally a problem because when there are this many people on the island, we are normally very busy showing real estate.
I went to the tournament at 3pm yesterday and had a fantastic time. The Heritage is one of the many reasons come to Hilton Head. Even if they don’t play golf, they still love the Heritage!
If you are out at the tournament this week, be sure to stop by our hospitality house. We are open everyday and will be serving lunch between 11am and 2pm. It’s a great time to visit with old friends, family and clients.
Heritage – to me it’s the most wonderful time of the year…

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock; it’s hard to miss that the Annual Hilton Head Island Heritage Golf Tournament has arrived! We are excited for a week of great golf, beautiful weather and fun at Harbour Town Golf Links.
I wanted to share with you a great article that appeared in Forbes earlier this week promoting the Heritage and Hilton Head Island. Enjoy and hope to see you on the golf course!

I loved when I saw this article; it’s hard for me to believe Harbour Town doesn’t rank #1, but I guess if you place 2nd to anyone, The Masters at Augusta National makes complete sense.
The annual Heritage Golf Tournament holds a special place in many people’s hearts. I don’t think I’m alone when I say that I was thrilled when the tournament found another sponsor last year allowing the PGA to continue to play in Hilton Head.
Wondering what other courses topped the list? See the full article below…

It was recently announced that the RBC Heritage will be scheduled the week after the Masters; a spot it had held from 1983 up until last year.

As most of you read, yesterday was a great day for Hilton Head Island with the announcement of RBC and Boeing as sponsors for the local Heritage Golf Tournament on Hilton Head Island.
I was at the press conference and was one of the few people to sound off on the local news – I’ve attached the video just in case you missed it.
So the countdown for Heritage 2012 begins – a great event for Sea Pines Plantation, a great event for Hilton Head Island and the state of South Carolina!

After much speculation, today it was announced that the Heritage Golf Tournament will continue on Hilton Head Island with a new sponsor.
I was excited to see Governor Nikki Haley make the announcement today at Harbour Town.

James Wedgeworth & Nikki Haley, Thursday, June 16th at the Heritage Golf Tournament Press Conference
“This is a great day in South Carolina, and we’re going to celebrate,” said Gov. Haley. “We said from day one that finding a private sponsor for The Heritage was one of this administration’s top priorities because the tournament is an opportunity for us to showcase our state as one of this country’s premier destinations for business and tourists and that we shouldn’t rely on taxpayers to foot the bill.”
The RBC Heritage, which for 2012 will return to its traditional week in April immediately following the Masters Tournament, has been an important element of South Carolina’s culture and economy since 1969, when it debuted at the Pete Dye – designed Harbour Town Golf Links.
The tournament generates more than $1 million for charity each year and brings worldwide exposure to Hilton Head Island and the state of South Carolina through telecasts and media coverage. A 2010 study conducted by Clemson University shows the tournament has an annual economic impact of approximately $82 million.

I just shot a television program on WHHI discussing the local Hilton Head Island real estate market. The commentator asked me how the busiest 30 days of the year went. Through April 25th we had a lot of activity on the island – the Heritage Golf Tournament, great weather, Easter and lots of vacationers.
I think buyers and sellers are finally getting on the same page. Time has a way of changing those things and I think most sellers have realized that in order to sell they need to adjust their price to current market conditions. Sellers can liquidate their properties and buyers can get great deals.
To get the market to turn around we need to liquidate some inventory and we seem to be doing that. We have to get out of the hole that has been dug and it takes time to get back to level solid ground, but I think we are on our way.
Keep an eye out for my latest program – I’ll post it when it’s available.

People often ask me when is the best time to sell real estate on Hilton Head Island.
The answer – April – and there are several reasons for that.
The first is the famed Heritage Golf Tournament which brings many people to the island. The flowers are also beautiful this time of year – almost picture perfect!
April also brings lots of people to the island for spring breaks and Easter.
I think it also has a lot to do with cabin fever; this might be the first trip out of the cold for some northerners and whether they are vacationing or golfing, April brings lots of people to the island.
Statistics have also shown that people who travel during the month of April are an average of 12 years older than those who vacation during the summer. What does this mean, they often have a higher disposable income.
It might be a little of everything - but it all adds up!
