During the Thanksgiving holiday, Jane and I went to the mountains with our two sons.

My sons wanted to buy some cowboy boots and there was a cowboy boot shop right off the interstate in Asheville.  We stopped there to look at boots.

There was a young lady helping us who was one of the most professional, knowledgeable person about boots I had ever seen.  I was so impressed with her knowledge as I listened to her explain the different types of boots to my sons.  I asked the young lady if she owned the store because of her great knowledge of the products.  She told me that her parents owned the store and her grandparents had started the business 80 years ago.  She had been working there since she was old enough to walk.

I complimented her on her professionalism and her knowledge of her industry.  It made me realize that I need to be more like this young lady.

My goal in life is to be as good a Realtor as this young lady was at selling cowboy boots.  In the Hilton Head Island real estate business, I believe that customer service is key.

I run into so many “part time Realtors” who don’t know the market and I realize what bad advice they must be giving their customers.  I’m sure there are many cowboy boot shops across America where the people do not know anything about boots.  It made me realize how fortunate we were to run into this lady.  If I ever need a pair of cowboy boots, I know exactly where I’m going to buy them.
