I was meeting with a friend of mine and we were discussing what was going on in the Hilton Head real estate market.  He made a comment that made me stop and think.  He said that there is a “lot of sizzle out there, but nobody is serving steaks.”

He said that there are so many Realtors out there talking about what they are going to do and what a great agent they are, but there is no steak.

In selecting a real estate agent, I think it is important to realize that talk is cheap – anyone can talk about what they can do and with today’s technology, anyone can make a great listing presentation by plugging in three of four variables into a computer program making them appear to be the guru of real estate on Hilton Head Island. 

I talked to someone who had listed their home with another agent who had never sold a piece of property in their development and was relatively new in the business.  They listed with them because they made a great listing presentation.  After they had it listed for a while, they realized that they had “bought the sizzle, not the steak.” 

In today’s real estate market, you have to realize that your Realtor knows what they are doing, is experienced and knows your particular market. 

There is a lot of sizzle and not much steak being delivered today.
